Fred Henning
I was born in Chicago in 1938, attended St Rita and St Kevin grammar schools, Mendel Catholic H.S. and entered the Augustinian Seminary after H.S. After leaving the seminary, I attended Loyola University working full time while attending day and night school classes and earned a Bachelor’s degree. I also received a Masters degree in Public Administration from Roosevelt University.
I have held electronic engineering positions at a number of companies, I was a lecturer at the Adler Planetarium for 12 years and while there developed and presented courses in Methods of Teaching Astronomy for elementary and High School and developed a coordinated curriculum guide for the Chicago Public Schools. I was the initial director of the Planetarium Society’s Astro-Science Workshops. This was a federally funded program to interest elementary and H.S. students in Astronomy and Space. Subsequent to this I was engaged by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to present special programs at Colleges/Universities showing teachers, in various disciplines, how astronomy and space topics could be introduced into their curriculum. I also taught electronics and digital computer programming at Thornton JC for 4 years and Fire Science at Harper College for 12 years.
I have been part of the Elk Grove Community since the mid 60’s, working as an engineer for Ampex in the Industrial Park, becoming a full time member of the Elk Grove Fire Department in 1970, working part time and then full time at Alexian Brothers Medical Center until retiring in 2012.
I married and had 7 children that attended St Hubert and/or Our Lady of the Wayside grammar schools and St Viator H.S. I was a member of the St Hubert school board. Five of the children also chose to attend Catholic Universities. I am presently married to Mary Ann Gibson-Keegan, who has been very active at QR and her children attended Queen of the Rosary.
School Board:
I have always been an exponent of Catholic Education and pledge to be an active participant not only at school board meetings but in the life of the school and students. I have already been active with the school having been a judge at the annual Science Fair and having built much of the equipment in the Kg/pre-school educational play area. I offer my time and life experience to help the school in any way that I can.
